ORANGEPICKER - 27-2-2004 at 20:19

i noticed after the long post/thread about the hamburg 12 hr. race,
the english forum has gone quiet again.
doesn't the international readers/subscribers like this forum?

i/we think that this forum is the best forum so far in the english language ,because no-one has smeared it with foul words .

lets have some new topics again here guys.as we all know, this site caters mainly for hardbodies in 1/24 "scale":D

I know this is a silly question. But why are lexan bodies unpopular?

willem - 29-2-2004 at 17:36

It´s all about whether you are more a modeler or a racer. Obviously a lexan body is much lighter and stronger then any other plastic kit but the level of detail is not up to the standard a real modeler wants to drive with.
It´s a matter of approach:
Or you drive real cars or you drive around a piece a plastic. The quality of the detail in lexan bodies has gone up but it doesn´t come close to a good model kit.

cheers

it is a silly question to start with .
i will not start another thread about the subject .

it is unpopular to people like us who are MODEL CAR RACERS
i agree with willem 200%.

do you know that it was the silly clear plastic/lexan that killed the hardbodied slot cars in the 60's?

blobs and thingies thats what they're called.

no offence o.g._capone, i wil not even think about it,as i have used a white point body shell in Ostend ,and the results are totally disastrous, and ridiculous.if the body shell the racers
are looking for or would like to use isn't available in a kit or resin, well, don't bother.

that is the main reason why people who race this kind sticks to the rule that they have.

It is certainly not a silly question.
Both have their place in slot car racing and one should not talk down the other.
As far as true-to-scale slot car racing goes, there are many good and detailed scale Lexan or PET bodies available which can be used to create a very good looking car, especially when some additional parts are used.
In some countries where scale slot car racing is the dominant form, scale vaccum bodies are used to give newcomers an easy formula to get started in scale racing.
Also, clear bodies were not the reason the old plastic bodied slot cars in the 60's disapeared...but this is another long story.
Cheers

very well said werner,
as you have mentioned they have their own respective places .

but when the racers are racing hardbodied models/resin etc. their rules of the race is to use hard bodied model cars.it would be totally unfair to have a lexan bodied car to compete against them.

i have officially registered our association
to make sure that the rules we have all agreed to ,are followed to the tee.

i also am not putting the hard lexan bodies down,as to speak,we also have a wednesday night series using hard lexan ford model a fords.but these cars are flexi chassied .
when i said disastrous about the whitepoint body,it was after a single crash that the shell snapped.

we still prefer the hard plastic models and resin kits to the lexan/pet shells.

p.s. i receved the order this afternoon.
thanks

good racing to all

:)
