Group C - Jaguar XJ220

Just a quick question,

Would a Jaguar XJ220 be allowed for the race in Moers?? I know that technically it is not a Group C car, however it did race, and got a class win, in 1992 with the infamous Dane, John Nielsen.

Thanks

Best regards
Henrik

Hello Henrik,

Your Jaguar XJ220 isn't a group C car, so as far as I know the car is not allowed for the sprint race on 10 september in Moers.

If you go for the 24 Hrs race in Moers wich is I believe 2 weeks urlier, you should ask them or eather Tamar who is building an older type of car for the 24 Hrs race.

With kind regards,

Onno.

Hello Henrik,

In a Dutch tread Tamar confirmed that you can drive a GTP car as well, for example the Ford Mustand Probe GTP and BMW GTP. Only until now some of these cars are not in the homologation list but it will be taken care of I guess.

Greatz,

Henk

Hi Onno, I know it is not a Group C car, however, it was driven at Le Mans at the same time as the Group C cars.

On the other hand the Mustard Probe could be an alternative, too

And the 962 is almost done...

I was testing the Jaguar today - it's a speedking :car:

Hi Henrik,

Then it's a question for LMS organisation, they can give us the answer.
Good luck with building!

Hi Henrik,

Your answer about the Jag. is; It's a GT car and not a Groep C car.

Gt cars are not allowed in "the group c car race" in Moers.
It may have a class win but the race is only for group c cars.
But there are other races where you can put the Jag. on the grid as being an GT car.:holy

Good luck with your 962, if I ware you........put the driver from the speedking Jag. into the Porsche 962.

Onno. ;)

Gr C - GT(P) what's in a name

Hello Henrik
How's life with the Danes of Thunder? Grilled under the midnightsun or washed away by rain. :D
I know you a crazy enough to :car: down to Moers for a sprint race and would be happy to see you again but..you wont be allowed to race your XJ220.

The LMS race in Moers is for cars that raced under FIA Gr C rules only.
Your XJ220 raced at Le Mans in 1993 and yes... this was the very last year that Gr C cars were allowed to take part in the LM 24hrs. But the XJ220 raced in the GT class.

Gr C - GT(P) what's in a name
From Henk's post it is clear that Class names and what they mean can be a bit confusing.

GTP stands for Grand Touring Prototype and this is indeed a bit of a contradiction as a GT is normaly a production (streetlegal) based car, where as a Prototype is usually a pure one of race car.

The name GTP has been used on 2 occasions by 2 organizing bodies:

  1. By IMSA 1983-1994 for Prototypes that were very similar to the FIA Gr C (these are the cars mentioned by Henk)
  2. ACO LM24hrs 1998-2004: for closed prototypes like the Audi R8c, Toyota GT one and Bentley's (actually the ACO called them LM(GT)P's)

When in doubt in which class your car belongs...just post it on tha forum

with kind regards

Tonight I will bring a BMW GTP, a Ford Mustand Probe GTP and a Tamtech Lancia LC2 to Noord so they can be put on the homologation list if it is possible to weight them there.

Hello Tamar,

I got the drift about the Jag, thanks :comp1:

In that case I'd better get a 962 ready - anybody else have it in the Rothmans #18 version??

And I won't be driving, rather flying into Brussels - take advantage of Gert's hospitality and then drive to Moers from Wiekeworst :)

See you there
