Danish PlaFit Championships 2008

This weekend the DKPM was held for the first time ever. The event was organised by Danish PlaFit importer Keld Høfler, and sanktioned by Kurt Petri for PlaFit Europe, at his and Gorm Nøregaards racecenter RACEFUN in the outskirts of Copenhagen. Originally it was intended to be a two day event.

The race was as stated above held at the slotracing center RACEFUN, on the "Art of Speed" track which should be very well known by Dutch and Belgian racers, as it used to "live" in the BeNeLux. The track has been only slightly modified since the, as the s-corner right after the start/finish line and before the donut has been changed into a standard lefthander. Therefore the laptimes might just be a tad faster then in the old days.

In the end the entry was a little on the low side, only 8 teams of 3 drivers entered, but that is still 24 Danish model car racers, and among them where some of the best racers. Because of the rather low entry the event was reduced to a one day event.

The happy DKPM contestants.:

If you look closely at the picture there are som very familiar faces from the world of scaleracing as well among them, Carsten Grønemann, Thorkild Hjort, Søren Thomsen and Martin Borch, all very acomplished racers in Danish scaleracing and lately very good model car racers as well.

There is also the absolute top of the Model Car Racing drivers, in that the top of the last two Danish Model Car Championships was there, Gorm Nøregaard (Champion in 2007), Keld Høfler (Vice champion in 2006 and 2007), Christian Høfler (Champion in 2006) and lots of other top drivers from the various Danish model car leagues.

For myself, I could not be present because of other obligations, however the below report has been given to me by Michael Huniche who entered the race.

The entered teams was.:
17 Team HMC, Jørgen Rigtrup, Hroar Olsen, Robert Castello, Ferrari 575 GT1
23 Racefun 1, Christian Høfler, Martin Borch, Keld Høfler, Porsche 911GT1 Evo
27 Racefun 2, Gorm Nørregaard, Morten Iversen, Henrik Bering, Porsche 911 GT1 Evo
28 Racing for Vikings, Michael Huniche, Peter Christiansen, René Andersen, Ferrari 575 GT1
36 Team Gimle, Per Steen Nielsen, Jan Andersen, Lennart Sørensen, Toyota Supra JGT
44 Senior Team, Carsten Grønemann, Søren Thomsen, Palle Bering, Porsche 911 GT1 Evo
96 Superslot 1, FinnThomsen, Lars Jacobsen, Thorkild Hjort, Ferrari 575 GT1
69 Superslot 2, Claus Henriksen, Poul Rønholt og Lars Thomsen, Ferrari 575 GT1

As can be seen by the entry most had opted for the Carrera 575 GT1 body or the Porsche 911 GT1 Evo.

The car of Racing for Vikings.:

The race was according to all participants a gigantic sucses, even with the low number of teams. There was a very good ambiance, and a lot of close racing.

For 2008 there is sure to be more teams as the DKPM will be part of the European PlaFit Championship, and it will be a qualifying race for the DPM.

CONGRATULATIONS to all of the Danish Racers on such a successful 1st DKPM! It is good news to see such a positive result, as we here in America will do the same with our first 2008 PANAMERICAN 'PLAFIT' CHAMPIONSHIP next year at the new MID AMERICA RACEWAY in Chicago,

We are hoping that the great DPM series that has been so successfully developed by Kurt Petri will provide a bridge for model car racers in America to join the European circuit . . . and also to attract some European racers to the great city of Chicago. If you have any advice to offer from your first promotion and event . . . we would welcome your comments. All the best and congratulations again!

Hi Marco,

You should get in touch with Keld Høfler and Gorm Nøregaard, who organised the event and are the owners of the RaceFun racecenter.

You should be able to get in touch with them via fun@racefun.dk
