Tech Rules Front Axle

Hello Guys.
Pål raised a question in an other topic that deserves a seperated thread

IS THAT ALLOWED OR NOT!

I ask because there seem to be a wide acceptance that all the SLP chassised cars (more or less) has been using these stub axels last year, however the rules state that the front axels need to be 3 mm blank axels, however they do not say whether they can be stub axels or they need to be solid axels.

The "stub axles" Pål refers to are Plafit article PF1702D3 available for the Super 24 chassis. This part allows the front wheels to turn independently , or PF1703D3 which has the axle mounts at a 3 degree angle creating the so called "camber fronts" as pictured below.

Again I'll start with the rules that apply on this subject.

Art. 1.0 Ready To Run (RtR) Slot Car, Dimensions & Weights
1.1 RTR cars - Allowed are all RtR Cars comprising a commercially available 1/24 Production Model Car Chassis' (art. 2, art. 3) and a 1/24 Scale body of a 1/1 Scale GT as raced in FIA-GT, and LMES (period 2004 - 2007) (art. 4)

Art. 2.0 Chassis, Motor and Gearing
2.1 Make & Type -Choice of chassis parts manufacturer is free. Chassis parts must be from the same manufacturer. Chassis' must be angle/sidewinder type.

Art. 3.0 Axles, Rims and Tyres
3.1 Axles - Only steel ø 3 mm blank axles are allowed.

Explenation
As parts PF1702D3 and PF1703D3 are:

  • Made by the same manufacturer as that of the chosen commercially avialable chassis (Plafit) and the choice of chassis parts within the range of this manufacturer is free.
  • The (stub) axles are made of steel and have a 3mm ø

All requirements in the rules are met so I would say they are perfectly legal.
Even more... I wonder why the "other" manufacturers have not followed suit and developped a similar tune up for their chassis :D

With kind regards

Thanks for the clarification! Trust me, there will be other chassis makes with these wonderfull stub axels.

How about the 3 degree camber angel, it is not stated in the rules that this is a minimum or a maximum, so another manufacturer could try with 2-6 degree of angel if the want??? Or what???

Again I ask for the clarification, so we dont need unneccesary discution at the track TC!

Hi,

if you use 3 degree camber isn't it impossible to get this:

"min. 5 mm of the tyre width must have contact with the tec block."?

Or do you grind you front tyres like cone?

That's exactly what needs to be done. and its not even that conical (see picture above in first posts)

Oh and p.s
Contrary to what some websites publish.....Running camber fronts is not the holy grail in modelcar racing :D

So happy you wrote this:laugh: Cause thats exactly what we have found up untill now. However, your answer also implicates that we have to make cambered fronts our Holy Grail in a Monthy Pyton kind of way all the same:D

Without it we will be at a phsykological disadvantage at the start;)

Cheers all:bounc:

Maybe you should try this mantra to boost your spirits. Its what the Knights of the Round table sang during their quest to bring the Holy Grail back to King Arthur's castle.
(freely adapted from Monty Python and the Holy Grail)

We're knights of the Round Table, we dance whene'er we're able. We do routines and chorus scenes with footwork impec-cable, We dine well here in Cam-ber-slot, we eat ham and jam and Spam a lot. / We're knights of the Round Table, our shows are for-mi-dable. But many times we're given rhymes that are quite un-sing-able, We're opera mad in Cam-ber-slot, we sing from the diaphragm a lot. / In war we're tough and able, Quite in-de-fa-ti-gable. Between our quests we sequin vests and impersonate Clark Gable / It's a busy life in Cam-ber-slot.
